India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024: India beat Pakistan in Low Scoring Thriller

This match is in my top three India vs. Pakistan World Cup matches.

In the 19th T20 World Cup 2024 match, India defended 119 runs and won by 6 Runs.

The difference in the match came down to one player: Jasprit Bumrah. His career is filled with amazing performances, but this one was special.

It wasn’t just because it was a T20 World Cup match against Pakistan; his efforts changed the game’s outcome.

India defended a low score of 119 runs, and Pakistan, who seemed to be in control at 80 for 3, lost. The 2022 tournament finalists now face an early exit.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Magical Spell in India vs Pakistan Match

Pakistan needed 40 runs off the last 36 balls with seven wickets. Predictometer gave them a 93% chance of winning.

But Jasprit Bumrah’s calmness, discipline, and extraordinary skill in bowling turned the game around.

Interestingly, Bumrah didn’t go looking for wickets. He just bowled back-of-a-length deliveries that were hard to hit.

This consistency made Pakistan desperate. Bumrah pushed them into a corner, usually their comfort zone in World Cups, but not this time. This time, they panicked.

Mohammad Rizwan thought he could play a cross-bat shot to a full-length ball, but his stumps paid the price.

After this, Bumrah spread his arms wide and smiled. But he didn’t stop there. He roared, and over 30,000 people in the stadium roared with him.

He punched the air, and millions joined him. This was the crack in Pakistan’s innings.

Rizwan, the set batter, fell for 31 off 44 balls. Bumrah had earlier dismissed Babar Azam and later took out Pakistan’s last hope, Iftikhar Ahmed, in the 19th over.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled 24 balls, and 15 of them were dot balls. Even his full tosses were game-changing.

Bumrah’s brilliance made history: 119 is the joint-lowest total ever defended in men’s T20 World Cups.

All Round Support from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel

India waited until the third over to bring in Bumrah.

They had to wait until the 15th over to bring him back. Meanwhile, other players, especially Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, kept the pressure on.

Hardik’s short-of-a-length deliveries were always going to be a threat on this New York pitch with uneven bounce.

He stopped Fakhar Zaman from playing a quick cameo and then took out Shadab Khan.

Both times, the batters were surprised by how high the ball bounced. Hardik Pandya just shrugged as if to say, “No big deal.”

Axar Patel was another hero in this India vs Pakistan match.

He bowled the first death over and kept it to just two runs, even though he was up against a left-hand batter with the short boundary on the leg side.

Imad Wasim couldn’t win the match-up as Axar bowled non-spinning deliveries that bounced over his cut shots.

According to the predictometer, Bumrah caused India’s biggest momentum swing, a 44% increase by the end of the 19th. Axar’s defensive skills earned a 13% bump.

Rishabh Pant Doing Pant Things

This was the best pitch to bat on in New York so far, but it had challenges.

The ball often didn’t come on and sometimes bounced unevenly.

Rizwan and Arshdeep Singh took blows to the hand.

A bit of luck is needed in these conditions.

Rishabh Pant got that when he survived three catching opportunities in three balls and later survived an inside edge that could have gone onto the stumps.

Bravery helps too. Pant showed that when he smashed Haris Rauf over extra cover. A bit of imagination doesn’t hurt either.

Pant showed this with a flick shot he played while falling to the ground, getting under a good length ball and putting it in the gap at fine leg.

Later, against Imad’s accurate left-arm spin, he brought out the standing reverse sweep.

Batting was tough, but Pant’s unorthodox methods made him successful and stand out.

He scored 42 off 31 balls at a strike rate of 135. The rest of the Indian team managed 70 off 84 balls at a strike rate of 83.

The Footnotes

In the game against the USA, Mohammad Amir was inconsistent.

In this match, he was spot on. Eight of his first 12 deliveries produced false shots.

Early on, he beat the bat three times in a row with the new ball. Later, with the old ball, he was on a hat-trick.

Pakistan demoted him first to change, and by the time he came on, India had already lost their two best batters.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were caught off balls stuck in the pitch.

Amir had a soft entry but made the most of it.

His best work coincided with Pakistan’s best phase of the game, when they bowled four overs between the 12th and 15th, conceding only eight runs and taking four wickets.

India went from 89 for 3 to 96 for 7. At the halfway stage, Pakistan seemed ahead. Twenty overs later, they faced elimination, partly because they didn’t have Jasprit Bumrah.

The Finishing Line

This match will be remembered as one of the greatest India vs Pakistan World Cup encounters.

It showcased Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance, the Indian team’s strategic acumen, and the intense pressure of a high-stakes game.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya performance was the defining factor, turning the game around and leading India to a historic victory.

This match will go down in history as a testament to the impact one player can have on the outcome of a game.
